Viktoriia Vitrenko is a Ukrainian soprano, conductor, and curator whose artistic practice connects contemporary music with social and political questions. As founder and artistic director of INTERAKT Initiative e.V., she develops participatory formats at the intersection of music, interdisciplinary art, and social intervention – projects that combine artistic excellence with cultural relevance and expand access to contemporary art for diverse audiences.

As a singer, she has performed at venues and institutions including the National Opera of Ukraine, the Opera Forward Festival, the Opéra national de Lorraine (as part of NOX), and the Staatstheater Stuttgart/Junge Oper. Her numerous appearances have taken her to renowned European festivals – including ECLAT Festival, NOW! Festival, Gaudeamus Muziekweek, November Music, Ludwigsburg Schlossfestspiele, and Transart Festival – as well as to concert halls such as Muziekgebouw Amsterdam, Konzerthaus Dortmund, IRCAM Paris, and Kölner Philharmonie. She has collaborated with ensembles including Ensemble Musikfabrik, musica assoluta, and Ukho Ensemble, as well as with conductors such as Markus Stenz and Tito Ceccherini, composers including Agata Zubel and Alla Zagaykevych, and musicians such as Alexei Lubimov, Nurit Stark, and David Grimal.

Her debut album Scenes (AUDITE, 2019), featuring chamber music by György Kurtág, received the Supersonic Pizzicato Award and was nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award (PdSK 2019) and the International Classical Music Award (ICMA 2020). Further recordings have been released by Sony Classical and Kyiv Dispatch. Vitrenko is also an alumna of the German Music Council’s “InSzene Vokal” programme for contemporary music and was awarded the Michiko Hirayama Prize by the Scelsi Foundation in Rome in 2023.

As a conductor, she began her career with the women’s vocal ensemble Making Waves (2009–2014), with which she achieved international competition successes throughout Europe. As a scholarship holder of the German Music Council’s DIRIGENTENFORUM (2015–2017), she conducted ensembles including the Philharmonischer Chor Berlin, NDR Vokalensemble, and Rundfunkchor Berlin. She has conducted orchestras and ensembles including the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, Divertimento Ensemble, Ensemble Musikfabrik, Münchner Symphoniker, and Haydn Orchestra Bolzano. In 2020/21, she was an artist-in-residence at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris. In 2023/24, she was an artist-in-residence at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart.

In 2022/23, she held a teaching position at the Studio for Contemporary Music at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart (HMDK). She studied voice with Yasuko Kozaki, Angelika Luz, Georg Nigl, and Sibylle Rubens, and conducting with Viktor Petrychenko, Denis Rouger, and Richard Wien.

Her current projects include Cassandra's Scream (world premiere December 2026), a concert featuring six young Ukrainian female composers, as well as EX-ANIMA, an international mono-opera by Maxim Shalygin in cooperation with Junge Oper Stuttgart and the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester (world premiere season 2027/28).
