Do you dare to go down the rabbit hole? A world of new music awaits you, as four singers who can sing Mozart as well as Stockhausen explore the limits of vocal expression, bringing together their collective experience of years of performing the music of our time. This gives us a rich palette of extended techniques that extend the limits of what was thought possible with the voice.
As the Queen in “Alice in Wonderland” says, “Why sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” Improvisation plays an important role in the rabbit hole. Although aprotagonist in improvised music world wide, the voice has taken a secondary role to instruments in our culture. We seek to change this, exploring new possibilities of vocal improvisation as a vocal quartet. Our experience with vocal music around the globe informs this process, which is always in brotherhood/sisterhood, never exploitive. We are, to quote Alice, “curiouser and curiouser!”
